Discover the fabulous wine and food and the beautiful landscapes of Australia

The highlights of Australia food & wine tour includes all the well-known wine and gourmet regions of Australia. Margaret River in Western Australia, the Barossa Valley in South Australia, the Yarra Valley in Victoria, and the Hunter Valley in New South Wales.

Included in the trip are the essential sight-seeing highlights of the regions. In all the locations you’ll stay in boutique hotels and eat in gourmet restaurants.

The tour starts in Perth, with a wine appreciation course, then its off to Margaret River for 2 nights. Margaret River is the home of many of Australia’s most famous wineries, with names like Evans and Tate, Vasse Felix and Cape Mentelle. There are over one hundred wineries in the region, and we can’t visit them all, but we’ll take you to some of the best, large or small.

After that, the tour goes to the Barossa valley in South Australia. This is the home of Australia’s most iconic wine, Penfold’s Grange, which retails at over $500 a bottle. Many Australians have a “Grange count” – the number of bottles of Grange they’ve sampled – for most people it is zero! But there are over seventy wineries in the valley, and we’re sure you’ll have some great tasting and eating.

We then head for Melbourne in Victoria. You’ll travel the great ocean road, one of the most beautiful drives in the world, and view the Twelve Apostles, as well as visiting the Yarra valley wineries, and another of Australia’s wine icons, Chandon. They are the makers of some of the finest Australian champagnes (or methode champagnoise as we should call them). We’ll visit some superb wineries, and eat delicious local food.

Finally on to Sydney, where you’ll visit the wineries of the Hunter Valley and visit the Blue Mountains. Once again there is a plethora of famous vineyards to visit, such as Brokenwood and Tyrell’s. Again, you’ll sample the best, and dine on the finest local produce prepared by local chefs.

On the free days in Melbourne and Sydney you will have the opportunity to indulge your whim in any of a variety of activities – theatre, sports, hot-air ballooning, swimming with dolphins, or what you will. Then, sadly, its back home, but with memories to last a lifetime.

I toured the Australian wine regions with Travel Scents. We started with a wine appreciation session, followed by a degustation lunch with matched wines – a highlight of the tour! We visited the premier wine regions in Australia, experiencing the wines of each region and eating the local produce in excellent restaurants. Throughout we stayed at unique boutique hotels. Margaret River was my favourite destination – friendly and intimate, with interesting shops and galleries. We saw some of the scenic highlights of Australia – the Great Ocean road and the Blue Mountains were unforgettable. I loved the helicopter flight around the Twelve Apostles, and came away with some great photos. Altogether a great introduction to Australian food and wine, and the Australian country. Thanks Travel Scents.
