Thekady is elephant country, and it is still possible to see elephants in the wild – if you are lucky!
We stayed at a resort where 3-storey “apartments” nestled around the head of the valley, looking down on the swimming pool and the spice gardens, and then the forests beyond. We felt so welcomed, and were so pampered by the lovely staff. Here we had some of the best food on out Kerala tour.
This place has to be a must on our proposed tours of Kerala! Activities include walking in the wild and pristine forests with a knowledgable guide, elephant riding, ayurvedic massage, and the usual option of lazing by the pool. We visited a spice garden, with a wide range of spices growing, most prominently cardamom. At the associated spice market we watched as mountains of spices were graded and packaged, and we purchased fresh spices which were sent home by post.
